He chairs the Italian UNI/CT 532, the national committee on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies that mirrors ISO/TC 307 and CEN/CLC/JWG 19, and UNI/CT 501/GL 1 a coordination group on ICT aspects on Circular Economy. -

Chaals NevileOASIS, Enterprise Ethereum Alliance
Chaals Nevile is the Technical Program Director at Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, seconded as part of his role as Standards Architect at ConsenSys Software. He is a member of the EEA Community Projects Governing Board, a minor contributor to the Baseline specifications, and an Editor of several EEA specifications.
Chaals has been involved in Ethereum since 2018, having worked since last century in standards for the Web. He was a staff member at W3C in the 90s and early 2000s, and subsequently while working at Opera and Yandex was a member of W3C’s Advisory Board 2008-2019, co-chair of the Web Applications Working Group, and has participated in dozens of W3C Working Groups, from Accessibility to Semantic Web. An Australian living in Madrid for the last dozen years, he has also been involved in work at IETF, ISO, IGF, and other standards organisations.

Claudio LimaIEEE Blockchain Transactive Energy, BCTE, Chair
Claudio Lima, Ph.D., is a global executive and thought leader in advanced digital transformation technologies (artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), with expertise in energy (utilities, oil & gas), renewable/solar energy, electric vehicle (EV), cybersecurity, smart city, and telecom/IT.
He is co-founder of the BEC Blockchain Engineering Council, chair of the IEEE Blockchain Energy Standards WG, and chair of the IEEE Blockchain Transactive Energy Initiative (BCTE). He headed the Sprint Advanced Technology Labs Digital Media Initiative (DMI) in Silicon Valley, California, for almost 10yrs.
He is currently leading global efforts on Blockchain/DLT standardization, interoperability and smart contracts cybersecurity in government and corporate enterprise blockchain initiatives. Dr. Lima earned a PhD in Electronic Engineering at the University of Kent (UKC/UK, 1995).

Craig DunnChair, ISO Technical Committee Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies
Craig was appointed chair of the International Standards Technical Committee for Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (ISO/TC 307) in 2017. Craig is also a former chair of the Australian Government’s Fintech Advisory Group and of Stone and Chalk, Australia’s leading fintech incubator.
He was also a member of the NSW Government’s Quantum Computing Fund Advisory Panel. Craig is a non-executive director of two of Australia’s largest companies: Westpac Banking Corporation (banking) and Telstra Corporation Limited (telecommunications), as well as being chair of The Australian Ballet. Craig has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services sector and was CEO of Australia’s largest wealth management company for six years from 2008 to 2013. Craig has been a panel member of several Government inquiries into financial services and has also lived and worked in both Europe and Asia.
Craig holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. -
Diego LopezETSI ISG PDL
Dr Diego R. Lopez joined Telefonica I+D in 2011 as a Senior Technology Expert, and is currently in charge of the Technology Exploration activities within the GCTIO Unit. Before joining Telefónica he spent some years in the academic sector, dedicated to research on network services, and was appointed member of the High-Level Expert Group on Scientific Data Infrastructures by the European Commission.
Diego is currently focused on applied research in network infrastructures, with a special emphasis on virtualization, data-driven management, new architectures, and security. Diego chairs the ETSI ISG on Permissioned Distributed Ledgers and the Network Operator Council ETSI ISG on Network Function Virtualization.
Apart from this, Diego is a more than acceptable Iberian ham carver, and extremely fond of seeking and enjoying comics, and good discussions on any (in)appropriate matter. -

Dr. Roman Beck is Full Professor within the Business IT department at IT University of Copenhagen. He is Head of the European Blockchain Center. As a Blockchain economist, his research focuses on the role of changing the nature of work due to Blockchain with a focus on governance and value creation in decentralized systems.
Roman is Head of the Danish ISO TC 307 Blockchain & Distributed Ledger Technology standardization group and Convenor of ISO TC 307 WG5 Blockchain Governance standardization and representative of Denmark at the European Blockchain Partnership Technical Working Group in Brussels. Helen KöpmanDeputy Head of Unit, Digital Innovation & Blockchain at the European Commission
Helen Köpman is Acting Head of Unit for Digital Innovation & Blockchain, at DG Communications Networks, Content and Technology at the European Commission in Brussels. The unit elaborates policy initiatives under the Single Market to support digital innovation, blockchain and growth of startups. Initiatives include the European Blockchain Partnership, Startup Europe, ICT standardisation and Innovation Procurement. The unit also leads along with DG FISMA, the European Commission Task Force on Financial Technology. Previously, Ms Köpman held the position of Deputy Head of Unit, managing EC supported research and innovation in the area of ICT applied to mobility. She also worked in the area of International Scientific Cooperation. She has a M.Sc. in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering, from the University of Linköping, Sweden. Ms Köpman joined the European Commission in 2003 following thorough industrial experience in the management of ICT service development in international companies that include Infonet, AT&T Unisource and Cap Gemini.

Ivan Herman graduated as mathematician at the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest, Hungary, in 1979. After a brief scholarship at the Université Paris VI he joined the Hungarian research institute in computer science (SZTAKI) where he worked for 6 years (and turned into a computer scientist…). He left Hungary in 1986 and, after a few years in industry in Munich, Germany, he joined the Centre Mathematics & Computer Sciences (CWI) in Amsterdam where he had had a tenure position between 1988 and the year of his retirement, i.e., in 2021. He received a PhD degree in Computer Science in 1989 at the University of Leiden, in the Netherlands.
He joined the W3C Permanent Staff in January 2001 while maintaining his position at CWI and has continued to stay on the staff, albeit with reduced hours, after his retirement. As a W3C staff member, he served as Semantic Web Activity Lead until December 2013. He is currently the Publishing@W3C Technical Lead, as well as the W3C staff representative for the work on EPUB 3, Audiobooks, Decentralized Identities, and Verifiable Credentials. He was also member of the Strategy, as well as the Technical & Architecture teams of W3C until 2021. -

Ramesh Ramadoss is an entrepreneur, author, researcher, and international speaker. He is a co-chair of the IEEE Blockchain Initiative. He leads the IEEE Blockchain Standards Committee. He also serves on the Expert Panel of the European Union Blockchain Observatory and Forum (EUBOF). He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA in 2003. Between 2003 and 2007, he was employed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Auburn University, Alabama, USA. In 2008, he moved to Silicon Valley and has over a decade of industrial experience in technology companies. He has conducted projects for DARPA, NASA, US Army, US Air Force, Sandia National Labs, and Motorola Labs. He is the author or co-author of 1 book, 3 book chapters and 55 research papers (Google Scholar Citations: 960). He has delivered talks at over 90 international conferences in 40 countries. Work responsibilities are mainly focused on blockchain standardisation. Previously, Rapolas worked with European Research Framework (H2020, FP7) projects and Broadband internet policies.
Prior to joining the European Commission, Rapolas worked with credit risk analysis at SEB Bank in Vilnius and as a consultant preparing economic and finance feasibility studies for the EU funding.

Ray is Senior Researcher in the ADAPT Research Centre in Dublin City University (DCU), IRELAND. He began his career in industry as a software engineer, software consultant and project manager with LM Ericsson, Software and Systems Engineering Limited and Siemens. Joining the School of Computing DCU in 1995 he delivers AI, IoT and Data Governance modules on Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD Programmes and is current (2021) Chair of the Graduate Diploma in Web Technologies. Ray is Chair of Big Data Value Association Standards Task Force, Chair of Network Development @ Gender Responsive Standards at the United Nations Economic Committee for Europe, Chair of the External Advisory Board of StandICT.eu, Chair of the Foresight Committee for the EUOS, Research Partner in StandICT2023.eu and Co-Lead on ELITE S Fellowship Programme for Emerging Technologies Standardization (Elite-Fellowships.eu). Ray has been a Digital Leader
with World Economic Forum since 2016 and was appointed to the IEEE European Public Policy Committee on ICT in 2019 as the AI WG Lead for IEEE EPPC. She left a career in derivatives, investment banking and currency markets to focus on emerging technologies for sustainability, access, and resiliency, particularly in financial systems. She is an early investor in, and an advocate of crypto and digital assets. Sandra currently serves as the CEO of the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), a Swiss-based non-profit consisting of more than 350 institutional members, 130 ambassadors across 76 jurisdictions and disciplines, as well as an angel investor in emerging technologies, Board member, advisor, keynote speaker and cofounder of several start-ups, non-profits, and key blockchain industry networks.

She holds six patents across derivatives, crypto and indices. Previously, she was a derivatives banker at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank, based in London. Sebastiano Toffaletti heads the Brussels secretariat of the European DIGITAL SME Alliance, which he contributed to found in 2008.
DIGITAL SME is Europe’s largest association for digital Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, representing about 45.000 companies across the continent.
The association covers EU initiatives, legislation and policies related to topics such as cybersecurity and privacy, data economy, IoT, Artificial Intelligence and blockchain. In 2019, DIGITAL SME published its Manifesto
for Europe’s digital future highlighting 10 key priorities and the role of SMEs in the digital revolution.
Sebastiano authored several articles and position papers on topics such
as Intellectual Property Rights, Standards, data economy and digital skills, and serves as an expert in EU working groups and task forces, where he brings forward the interests and views of SMEs. He is a member of the EU
multi-stakeholder Platform on ICT standardisation. He is currently chairman of the Working Group on SMEs at the European Cybersecurity Organisation and has led the creation of the label “Cybersecurity made in
the EU” in support of SME cybersecurity providers.
Since 2014, Sebastiano is a member of the Board at ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. Since 2020, Sebastiano is also a Board member of EIF, the European Internet Forum. -

Shiori Hiiragi is a researcher at Japan Information Processing and Development Center (JIPDEC), a foundation for promotion of digital economy and community, specializing in international standards developing as the secretariat of Japanese Industrial Standards Committee’s for ISO/TC307 and an expert of ISO/TC321, as well as researching on global policies and laws. Prior to joining JIPDEC, Ms. Shiori worked as a marketing strategy planner at OPT, Inc., one of the leading digital marketing agencies in Japan.

Suzana Maranhao MorenoDigital innovation Analyst at BNDES, Associate Rapporteur at ITU/UN, Blockchain Software Engineer, Brazil
Suzana Maranhão Moreno is also the Associate Rapporteur of the standardization group of ITU-T focused on DLT and multimedia (SG16/Q22) and a member of the Expert Panel of the European Blockchain Observatory and Forum. She was the vice-chair of ITU-T FG DLT (Focus Group on Application of Distributed Ledger Technology) until the end of the group in 2019. Suzana is a digital innovator in the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), which is now the main technical responsible for deploying a national infrastructure to blockchain in Brazil. With over 15 years of experience in IT projects, background in computer science, management and economics, she is a PhD student at the University of Geneva.

Thomas HardjonoIRTF/IETF
Dr Thomas Hardjono is currently the CTO of Connection Science and Technical Director of the MIT Trust-Data Consortium, located at MIT in Cambridge, MA. For several years prior to this he was the Executive Director of the MIT Kerberos Consortium, helping make the Kerberos protocol to become the most ubiquitously deployed authentication protocol in world today. Over the past two decades Thomas he has held various industry technical leadership roles, including Distinguished Engineer at Bay Networks, Principal Scientist at VeriSign PKI, and CTO roles at several start-ups. He has been at the forefront of several industry initiatives around identity, data privacy, trust, applied cryptography, and cybersecurity.
Aside from various open source software projects, he has held leadership roles in various standards organizations (as specifications editor; working group chair; board member): Trusted Computing Group (cybersecurity of systems); Open Music Initiative (smart contracts for music licensing); Internet Engineering Task Force (public-key certificates, multicast authentication, Kerberos, DLT interop); Kantara Initiative (decentralized identity management); Open Interconnect Forum (IoT security); OASIS Security Services Task Force (Security Assertions Mark-Up Language); IEEE 802 TGi (for WiFi Security).

Tom De BlockSolution architect | Chairman of the AIOTI WG DLT
Tom is a serial entrepreneur, with 20 years of experience in ‘IT quality and governance’, specializing in the validation of complex software systems.
Amongst his impressive list of clients are institutions such as SWIFT, the National Bank of Belgium and the SCHENGEN Homeland security system.Tom is a driving force at the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) where he is chairing the working group on Distributed Ledger Technologies.
More recent he was also asked to chair the EU-OS TWG ‘Data Interoperability’ under the StandICT initiative.With is driver mentality, Tom does lots of efforts around proof-of-technology especially around DLT and Blockchain convergence with IoT and other emerging technologies.
Over 11 DLT Use case Demonstrators have been registered in the recently published AIOTI Test beds catalog. While AIOTI WG DLT itself operates two big Test bed initiatives to benchmark different DLT protocols in terms of Performance and Energy efficiency. Comparative reporting is announced for 2022.Tom presents another angle to DLT and Blockchain standarisation.

Waqar ChaudrySenior Manager, Markets Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA)
Mr Waqar A. Chaudry joined the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) in September 2018. He leads the Technology Governance and Operations team within the Markets Department, which authorises and supervises Market Infrastructures, including Recognised Investment Exchanges, Recognised Clearing Houses, Multilateral Trading Facilities (MTFs) and Organised Trading Facilities (OTFs). With Markets as part of the overall Supervision division, Waqar also works with other parts of the FSRA with a focus on financial activities that involve Virtual Assets and innovation driven by DLT technologies.
Prior to FSRA, Waqar held management and technical roles as a consultant and was a council member with Gerson Lehrman Group. He served various positions at the Australian Securities Exchange, including a Product Manager in the Derivatives and OTC Markets. Waqar was an IBM consultant handling the banking, telecommunication and government sectors. Waqar began his career as a Software Engineer and continues to keep up with the latest in product and technical innovations that are shaping the future of financial and capital markets.
Waqar has a Bachelor of IT in Software Engineering from the University of South Australia, postgraduate qualification in Finance from University of Technology Sydney and MBA (Executive) from the AGSM at the University of New South Wales (Australia).
Joining Forces for Blockchain Standardisation 2021
In 2018, European Union Member states launched the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP), an initiative which is currently developing a European Blockchain Services Infrastructure. Today, all EU Member States, Norway and Lichtenstein are part of the EBP. Thanks to mainly grass-roots initiatives, more than 80 million euros within the Horizon 2020 framework have been allocated toward research and innovation projects where blockchain has been chosen as the major or one of the main technologies. More than 200 H2020 projects are actively undertaking research and innovation activities linked to Blockchain. In addition, 300 million euros have been dedicated to a designated AI/Blockchain. These funds have been successfully distributed to stimulate the European start-up community.
The global standardisation community is actively working to develop standards for blockchain technology. A majority of internet standardisation bodies have working groups working focused blockchain. For example:
– ISO has established technical committee TC307 where more than 20 EU Member states are full members.
– IEC has set up a joint working group within ISO TC307.
– ITU-T is working on standardisation of blockchain as part of a broader SG16 Multimedia and e-services.
– ETSI has industry specification group dedicated to Permissioned Distributed ledgers.
– CEN/CENELEC has set up JTC19 on Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies.
– EEE has a number of workflows standardising blockchain applications in verticals such as e-Health or Agriculture.
– W3C, IETF, OASIS, UNECE are undertaking similar activities related to blockchain.
Given the diversity and vast array of standardisation activities worldwide, the European Commission organised a webinar “Joining Forces for Blockchain Standardisation” which took place in June 2020 and held 10 dedicated thematic roundtables “ICT Verticals and Horizontals for blockchain standardisation” which brought together more than 70 H2020 projects, standardisation communities and EBP members to represent European values and prevent duplicating standardisation efforts.
INATBA, the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications, is committed to serving as a convener of critical conversations on global standards for blockchain and other DLT. Its Standards Committee, c0-chaired by Ismael Arribas, Monique Bachner and Gilbert Verdian, works closely with global standards-setting bodies to educate INATBA Members about the important role of standards and how they can be involved in international efforts. The Standards Committee has hosted numerous roundtables on this topic, including a virtual event on the role of linguistic and cultural barriers in developing global blockchain infrastructure.
To continue these activities, INATBA and the European Commission are hosting an online webinar, “Joining Forces for Blockchain Standardisation 2021.” The event will convene standards-setting and technical specification bodies such as ISO, IEC, ITU-T, CEN/CENELEC, ETSI, IEEE as well as regional bodies like EBP/EBSI, LACChain and national authorities from countries including Japan, India, Korea, USA, Brazil for a day-long workshop. The event will consist of presentations and panels to discuss progress made as well as ongoing challenges and collaboration opportunities. The workshop will serve as a starting point for 2022 thematic discussions related to Smart Contracts, Identity, Governance, Interoperability and CBDC/crypto assets.
