Anil JohnTechnical Director of the Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP)Anil John is the Technical Director of the DHS S&T Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP), which works with innovation communities across the nation and around the world to adapt, develop and harness cutting-edge technologies and capabilities that are commercially sustainable while simultaneously meeting government needs. In this role, he identifies and conducts due diligence on technologies, companies, products and capabilities that could be adapted to meet Homeland Security operational needs and informs and educates the global innovation ecosystem including startups, accelerators, incubators, venture capital community and many others regarding the diverse Homeland Security challenges and opportunities available to them through the Program.

Daniël Du SeuilConvener of the European Self Sovereign Identity Framework within the European Blockchain Partnership, National Belgian SSI Project Leader
Daniel Du Seuil is the convenor of the European Self Sovereign Identity Framework within the European Blockchain Partnership. This partnership of 30 EU Member States and related countries cooperate in the establishment of a European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) that will support the delivery of cross-border digital public services, with the highest standards of security and privacy. Daniel is also the initiator and project leader of the National Belgian SSI project Blockchain on the move. He is currently working as a project manager digital transformation at Digipolis Ghent and was the former blockchain program manager of the Flemish government. He is also a member of the EU Blockchain Observatory and co-initiator of the Belgian blockchain taskforce at Beltug.

Dr. Loretta AnaniaScientific Officer at European Commission’s DG Connect
Scientific Officer at DG Connect, among many other things, she funds research on self-sovereign identity, and disposable yet verifiable identity policies for the EC Horizon and Digital Europe programmes. Prior to joining the broadband activities of the European Commission, Dr. Anania received a Ph.D. from MIT and worked for 5 years at the MIT Media Lab on the Advanced Television Research Programme (setting the original transition from analogue broadcasting to digital tv standards). As scientific officer for the EC she follows digital innovation since FP2, on immersive media, future and emerging technologies, AI, and is currently funding SSI internet infrastructure innovation.

Karyl FowlerCEO and Co-Founder of Transmute, Member of the Decentralized Identity Foundation Steering Committee
Karyl Fowler is a member of the Decentralized Identity Foundations Steering Committee. CEO and Co-Founder at Transmute, where her team is leveraging decentralized identity technology to secure global trade and enterprise supply chains. Her experience is centered in fields with high regulatory burdens like FDA, HIPAA and ITAR. Karyl’s interests include quantified self, data rights and democratization especially as it pertains to genetics, and ensuring privacy-by-design at the device level. She holds a MSc in Technology Commercialization from McCombs Business School at the University of Texas and a BA in English and Political Science from Southwestern University.

The debate discussion focused on the INATBA Position Paper on Decentralised Identity published on Nov 26th 2020. Stakeholders were invited to look at current adoption of Decentralised Identity through the lens of the described ideal scenario and contributed to identifying next steps and understanding political/regulatory buy-in to the idea and potential barriers.
