Mobility Working Group
Purpose
The Working Group will cover the entire value chain of the transport sector, focusing in particular on Mobility-as-a-Service, Smart Cities, automated driving, traffic management, clean mobility solutions, logistics and supply chains.
Objectives for 2021
The Working Group co-chairs have agreed on four main objectives around which they will carry out the annual work. The Working Group will:
• Map the blockchain ecosystem in the mobility sector for clarifying: who are the main stakeholders involved and what are the use cases (short term);
• Identify barriers and challenges for the implementation and deployment of DLT (long term);
• Enable dialogue between stakeholders of the sector (long term);
• Develop guidelines and specifications for the development of trusted DLT applications for Mobility (long term).
Outputs for 2021
The Working Group engages in a number of activities aimed at achieving the aforementioned objectives. Among others, the WG is working to publish a data-driven report on mobility and convene a roundtable based on potential sector use cases.
Why is it essential?
Blockchain and DLTs can solve challenges in the transport industry and mobility services where the sharing of data and transactions among multiple actors is a hard requirement, and the existence of siloes along with the lack of trust between parties from different sectors can make it difficult to access data.
Many applications based on blockchain and DLTs exist today for Supply Chain and Mobility and several initiatives have been set up at the EU, national or city level. There is however still a lack of awareness and knowledge about the true potential of the enabling technology for intelligent transport systems – and in particular among the public sector and public authorities due to the fact that the concept is still abstract for many stakeholders.
